Apartment Life

In theory a two bedroom apartment should be more than enough space for two adults, right? It seems like an apartment grows exponentially smaller with the addition of just one person. In our apartment, Zoe has taken over the master bathroom, so we use the second bathroom. Then we have our bedroom. The second bedroom is a catch-all/computer/reptile room. It houses two leopard geckos, a ball python, storage containers, everything Alyson has accumulated so far, books, and games, among other things. The living room is half our living space and half the dog’s living space (the husky’s kennel, food tub, toys, and their futon). As you can see, a two bedroom apartment doesn’t go very far.

When our lease is up, we hope to buy a foreclosure home or (less ideally) rent a home. I’m really excited at this prospect. I really hope we can buy, so we can paint and decorate how we want. It gets boring staring at white walls but it’s not worth the hassle of painting in an apartment. The only requirements we’ve talked about wanting in a house are:

  1. A garage to house his Trans-Am so we can take it out of storage.
  2. A fenced backyard for the doggys to enjoy.
  3. At least two bedrooms but three would be nice.

We’ve been trying to get organized these past few months in anticipation of Alyson’s arrival and the future move, but we’ve just ended up awash in storage tubs. Looking over my shoulder, there is a sea of tubs between the living room and kitchen even after we’ve worked on trimming some of our belongings. Anyone have suggestions on how to get organized in an apartment? (Sell all your belongings doesn’t count)
