Life Interrupted
I’ve finally managed to free my hands long enough to write out a post. Alyson is very clingy and has to be held 99% of the time. Right now she’s sleeping propped on on her Boppy pillow at my feet, enabling me to catch up a bit on here.
My Birth Story
I went into labor for a few hours the morning of April 20th, but it sputtered out after a few hours. This happened on the 21st and 22nd, but on the 22nd it didn’t sputter out. I had a midwife appointment that day and when she checked me I was 3 cm dilated. I also had a non-stress test done. After a ginger ale/cranberry drink, Alyson passed with flying colors. The nurse also told me I’d had a few contractions, of which I’d only felt two. The midwife and the nurse seemed pretty sure I’d be having her that night or the next.
Fast forward to 10 PM or so. Eric and I had just been chilling at home watching movies up until this point. MY contractions got to 4 minutes apart and I told him we should go to the hospital. I called the midwife and she agreed. At 11:30 I was 7 cm dilated. We had to wait for a room, but as soon as I got in there I headed for the tub. The water felt great and definitely helped with the pain! I pushed for two hours and Alyson was born at 2:52 AM with her hand up by her head, otherwise I would have had her sooner. None of the nurses had expected me to deliver that quickly or that quietly, so I got to hold her longer than normal while they got towels and such ready. Eric cut the cord and I got out of the tub while they checked Alyson over and got her footprints. Her Apgar scores were 8 and 9.
We stayed in the hospital for a day (the required amount of time before they’ll discharge you). We had some trouble breastfeeding, but using a nipple shield we’ve managed to get the hang of it.
Stay tuned for a post on life with a baby!
